I guess I should introduce myself before posting, so there you go: You can call me Dan, I play WoW since 2011 mostly because all my school friends play it and I was like "what?" every time they talked about blood elves and death knights and battlegrounds, which was, well, all day. I play mostly because of the vanity pets and weird achievements, since I'm too much of a noob/social unskilled to do PvP or even PvE. I also would like to RP, but I can't find a private RP server that supports 3.3.5 and bad english.

It's Femslash February and almost Valentines'.
So I did a thing.

There's 14 screencaps under the cut, just saying.

This was such a fun weekend for me on Emerald Dream, I just had to share. First, there was leveling -- Seya hit level 88! I'm not sure if that happened on the weekend or shortly before, but whatever, my first weekend at level 88! \o/ Two more levels to go....

No, seriously, there has got to be something wrong with how in love I am with Seya's new transmog. She's a combat/assassination rogue. I just want to sit and stare at her all day.

Beauty unparalleled under the cut, along with the items used for the mog. )

This is what I've been doing instead of...anything else. Such a PitA to put together, omg, but so worth it.

Sunday evening at 9 PM server time/EST on Steamwheedle Cartel US, Steadfast will be hosting a small memorial service/moment of silence for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. We will be assembling at the Antonidas Memorial in Dalaran. This gathering is neutral and cross-factional and all who are of a mind are welcome and invited to attend.

\o/

I've been playing my rogue on Emerald Dream (RP-PvP) and have gotten her up to level 70 without actually doing any PvP. Well, I mean except for getting ganked while leveling, or killed in embarrassingly short order by players only a couple of levels above me.

It took me getting three-shotted by a hunter only two levels higher, two days dithering in Dalaran and watching YouTube videos of my chosen BG, pep talks from three guildies, my sister on Skype, a guildie queuing with me for it on an alt, and half a Xanax, but I finally did a battleground. Alterac Valley -- chosen because it's a gigantic 40v40 clusterfuck where I wouldn't feel like I was taking up a spot a good player could have had.

I assumed I would die a lot. Actually, I assumed I would spend the majority of the BG dead. BUT NO. I mean I did die a lot, but not nearly as much as I expected. And, unless I got credit for my partner's kills, I actually had 3 killing blows. I got credit for 8 honorable kills, anyway. But -- and I know this is pretty meaningless for a lot of reasons but it still makes me feel better -- according to Recount I was 11 out of 38 on the damage meter (I don't know how to read the BG board yet but I showed up in around the middle or a little higher? Idek).

Screenshot of Recount below the cut -- other players' names blacked out. )

Also, my side won. :)

Since WOW has patched, have any of you suffered loading issues or fatal errors?

I was alright until yesterday. I only had issues with one toon, which disabled me from playing her completely so I played my other one. Today, started goofing on that one. Map would turn black, icons would disappear, etc.... and then it would close with a fatal error.

Apparently this is an issue with many other players as well.

RP

[personal profile] zillah975
So, I've made a toon on Emerald Dream who has joined an RP guild. Guild chat is IC, but there's not (so far, at least) the kind of random IC chatter with terrible spelling and anachronistic "lol"ing. There's an OOC chat channel too, thank goodness, but anyway, Guild chat is hearthstone chat, by which they mean that characters' hearthstones allow them to speak to other guild members like on a party line. So this morning I was online leveling my wee level 10 hunter, and guild chat had been sort of quiet except for one guy (the guy who congratulated me on my Represent achieve when I equipped the guild tabard) who said "Hail Winterfelle members! I have exited victorious over Archbishop Benedictus!" To which I replied, "Huzzah!" because "Grats!" would be OOC, right? Right. It made me grin.

So there I was, killing murlocs at Stone Cairne Lake in pursuit of the fates of Malakai and Rolf, and I started sharing my findings in guild chat.

This was surprisingly entertaining! Usually when I'm questing, guild chat is random stuff about how we want cookies, or someone's having to work late, or does anyone want to do randoms? But this was, like...
Me: I must say, the Murlocs at Stone Cairne Lake do not give up their fins easily.

B: I never cared for Murlocs.

Me: Nor I. I must give them some grudging respect, though. They are fierce.

B: And their young make excellent companions!

Me: Hmm. I've found a campfire still burning.... Footprints heading west.

Me: Oh no. Footman Malakai has met a bad end. I fear the murlocs may have taken the other.

B: You must send word.

Me: I will, but first I must search for Rolf. He may yet live.

[a few minutes go by]

B: I have joined strangers of the Alliance in a battle against the Echo of Baine.

B: The heat of the lava is melting my bands.

Me: I shall pray for your safe victory!

B: Light Bless you for your support, Lillylu!

[more minutes]

B: Baine is slain!

Me: Light be praised! And you are well, I trust?

B: Light has shined upon me, but others in our party have fallen in victory.

Me: But in honorable battle. Take comfort in that.

B: For the King! For the Alliance!

[minutes pass]

Me: Ah, wretched murlocs! They've slain Rolf as well!

B: *sigh* Alas, Rolf served well.

and so on.

That's a lot more fun. It's making me feel like my wee lowbie quests actually have some meaning! some significance! Idk, I'm enjoying it. I hope it's not an anomaly or that just me and B both happened to be into it and everyone else in gchat was side-eyeing us but not wanting to say anything.

Any other RPers here? How do you do it?

Moon Guard

So, I keep hearing that the Moon Guard server is really awesome for RP and also to stay the hell out of Goldshire -- for the love of God, stay out of Goldshire -- and I was curious about both these things, so naturally I made a new toon there and went straight to Goldshire.

Y'all, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE. O____O

But wow, talk about a busy server. I've never seen so many people! So I'mma keep leveling (Nelf rogue) and maybe make a hunter as well, and see if I can find some good RP. NOT ERP. Nothing against it, I just...JUST NO. NOT FOR ME.

I mean, I've got toons on Ravenholt and Feathermoon, but it seems like on a server as busy as Moon Guard, surely even a shy person like me can manage a little RP. Or if not, at least I'll get to see what it's like on a server that's sooooo busy.

Ack!

A few months ago, I decided I wanted to get the "It's Over Nine Thousand!" Feat of Strength. At the time, I was giving myself plenty of time. I figured I could probably do it in about a year.

But then the Mists beta started and I was reading the info and seeing all the new Acheivements listed, and I knew that with all the easy new acheives the Feat wouldn't mean as much to me if I got it after the new expansion dropped. So I decided to step up my game.

Yesterday I sat down to finish all the quests in Nagrand for the "Nagrand Slam" achievement. If you have ever done this, you are already wincing in pain. It was vicious. Normally, I like questing. This is not the first zone I've finished by far, so I thought I knew what I was in for. I was wrong. So, so wrong.

The Details )

Anyway, I was triumphant, and I had to share my O.o at the trickiness of questing in this zone. I'm a Cata baby and I have to say, if this is what all questing was like before they revamped questing in the Classic zones, I have a whole new appreciation for people who got Loremaster before Cata.

So, a week or so ago, Blizzard held a press conference with all the major gaming sites, and spilled loads and loads of details about what's coming up in Mists of Pandaria. ROGUES!

Feb. 28th, 2012 08:54 am
zillah975: (Default)
[personal profile] zillah975
Okay, so, first of all, Roque is not the same thing as Rogue. However, it's very likely I will mistype "rogue" as "roque" and fail to catch it at some point. Please forgive me.

BECAUSE ROGUES! I am almost as in love with them as I am with Roque! ♥!!!

I've started two baby roq--rogues recently. I had started rogues before -- I had a couple of Worgen rogues and a Night Elf one, but I didn't get very far with them. I'm not sure why I didn't love them then and I do now, but I do, omg.

Hilariously (to me at least), being that they're Night Elves, who move faster than most when stealthed, and Subtlety rogues, and I gave them both Nightstalker points (mostly to find out if this would happen), they actually move slightly faster stealthed than unstealthed. I may respec them both later to use that point elsewhere, since I don't think they really need to move faster stealthed, but for now it's amusing the hell out of me.

The other hilarious thing is the awesomeness of Shadowmeld+Stealth if you're outnumbered and about to die. I had like three Bloodfeather Harpies on her, her health was way too low, and I hit Shadowmeld and they all just--went away. Like, "Oh, I guess we...scared her off." So, the threat you generate before you Shadowmeld is still there if you move, but it takes you out of combat, so Stealth is available. \o/

This is my new favorite thing.

The one on the Ravenholdt server, which is an RP-PVP server, is already making herself known in a way that the hunter I started there first isn't. You know that Twilight cultist encampment in Darkshore? I have never had a character so determined to kill all of them. Which is a problem, given that they keep respawning. I finally had to pull her away by her collar. The hunter is in an RP guild there -- I thought it would be fun to learn to RP, and I also feel more comfortable with the idea of PVP on an RP-PVP server, where it's less players-killing-players and more Alliance-vs-Horde. I have a pretty deep-seated desire for teamwork and helping EVERYONE to win, so trying to defeat other players doesn't come naturally to me, but if it's an RP thing and they're Horde, that may prove easier. Not sure yet. ANYway, I'm still trying to decide whether to join a guild with either roq--rogue.

I would show them both to you, but I haven't taken screenshots yet and Battle.net is down.

How are y'all?

Is anyone else finding that the prices on their auction house seem really inflated lately? Like, low-level armor and weapons being auctioned for upwards of 300GP, that kind of thing? I'm seeing this from a handful of sellers who are flooding the market with stuff that's so wildly overpriced, I can't imagine what they're doing. At first I thought it was all for the transmog market, but that doesn't explain things like the super-low level stuff that doesn't even have stats, so it can't be transmogrified, selling for very inflated prices. I'm not distressed about it, though it must be frustrating for a lot of lowbies who see gear they could equip but can't possibly afford, but it's puzzling to me, and I wondered if this was happening on other servers besides Shadowsong.
zillah975: (Default)
[personal profile] zillah975
So...the guildmaster of my Shadowsong guild mentioned the WoW Ironman Challenge - latest forum thread is here. Rules under the cut, though if interested at all, I recommend checking out the post, as there are some clarifications in comments and also more about how to participate in the challenge as opposed to just doing it on your own.

The thing that interests me is that I was just wondering the other day what it would be like to play WoW if you decided that death was permanent, and that if your character died, you'd just delete and re-roll or something.

Anyway, I don't know that I would try this, but I thought it looked really interesting and wanted to share.
zillah975: (Default)
[personal profile] zillah975
Finally, I've made screenshots!

Cut, though they're not very big )

It isn’t flashy at all, but I love it. It looks to me like something a hunter — who’s also fighting for her people and for the Alliance and for the world of Azeroth — might actually wear. It’s mostly the Fortified set, but here’s the whole thing:

Fortified Spaulders, Nether Cloak, Val’Kyr Vestments, Fortified Bracers, Veteran Gloves, Fortified Leggings, Fortified Boots, Silenced Blunderbuss. The polearm is transmogged to the Bleak Scythe, but the agility enchant adds a lime green glow to it that just looks bad, so I unequipped it for the screenshot.

I’m especially pleased with the legs and chest. It took me forEVER to find a chest piece that looked right — this one actually looks like leather to me, but it’s mail. It makes me really happy, because I can’t get past this “hunters wear mail now” thing. It seems like they just ought to wear leather.

And the leggings look like they have pockets! Pouches for her to keep stuff in! So practical!

I love it lots. :)
zillah975: (Default)
[personal profile] zillah975
So, I know there are rated battlegrounds like the 2v2 and 10v10 and whatnot, which I assume require that each side have that number of players. But do other battlegrounds have just whatever number of people show up? I mean, could you have a battleground, potentially, where one faction has 30 players and the other faction has 10? or do they do some kind of balancing act, or apply a min/max to the number of players per faction or something?

How many players usually show up for a battleground?

I've hardly posted about WoW at all lately, partly because I'd rather be playing it and partly because I keep thinking that no one is interested. And maybe they aren't, on my LJ, but geez, that's what communities are for, right? *laughs at self*

Anyway! I wanted to share the WoW squee, so here's a few squeeful things!

1) My main, Rayner, has officially filled every gear slot with current PVP honor gear and is working on the conquest gear (two pieces so far, and I ought to have another Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on how BGs go). \o/ God, being properly geared is so nice.

2) Having gotten all the honor gear I need, I'm now using honor to buy justice points to build a PVE set for him so that I can even run dungeons on him, too!

3) I am only four Tol Barad commendations from getting the Drake of the West Wind...which means I shall have it tonight. BWA HA HA! It is likely I shall make a second post to show it off. *g* It's my first dragon, you see.

4) Not having Area-ed since I turned 70 and ran three just for kicks, last night I 2v2ed with a Mage who asked for a partner in chat so many times that I figured s/he'd tolerate an Arena n00b like me just to have a warm body to cap points with. Not only did s/he tolerate me, s/he gave great advice and was super encouraging and offered to partner with me again in the future! \o/ I learned so much.

5) I bought a second account just so I could RAF my roommate up to 80 so I could have end game help on my server when I need it. I rolled a hunter, since I've been dabbling in the class, and I think it's my second favorite class now. I'll definitely be spending a lot more time on the hunter I have on my regular account once we're done RAFing.

6) Cross-realm raids in the next patch! Whoo hoo! Now (well, soon) my roomie and I can help each other's favorite characters get gear!

...I'll stop now. *g*
zillah975: (f*ing Azeroth)
[personal profile] zillah975
So... gear.

I get that Resilience isn't good for anything but PvP, but if the gear is still better than what I have, why shouldn't I use it in dungeons?

Obviously the reason is because I'll get kicked for doing it, or have to suffer through bullshit "lol n00b" comments, which is actually enough of a reason that I don't wear it. But it galls me. Because it's better.

Cut for whinging and length )

This post is brought to you by the kind of boring, tedious, irritating workday where you (or at least I) think, more than once, "fuck, I wish I lived in WoW." (This kind of day also sometimes leaves me daydreaming of zombie apocalypses, because then at least things would be interesting, if only briefly, and most of my problems would be new ones. I think that wishing to live in a video game might be a step up from wishing for a zombie apocalypse.)

I also happened (not coincidentally) to be perusing Blizzard's artwork, and I got to wondering. If I could live in Azeroth, where would I want to live? And I kind of think I'd want to live in Darnassus. It's beautiful, quiet, it's got a flight path to Darkshore and boats to the Exodar and Stormwind, from which I can get a portal or tram to just about anywhere I'd like to go, the climate is temperate, there's good fishing, it's clean, and I like the architecture. Also, saber cats!

Northrend is also compelling, but so dangerous! Stranglethorn could be a close second, though. Booty Bay is kind of down-scale but you do meet a wider type of people there, and that's appealing.

Idk, it's hard to decide!

What about y'all? If you were moving to Azeroth -- I'm assuming I'd be a sufficiently high-level character not to get killed by wandering bears, but it's up to you -- where would you want to set up housekeeping?

I was up way too late last night because a level 10 hunter in the forests of Teldrassil on the Eldre'Thalas server asked my newly-minted level 12 hunter where I got my awesome new coyote, which I got in Westfall. So I told him, and he was like, "can you take me there?" and I'm like, "um, it's kind of a long ways, but I can tell you how to get there!" So I told him about flying to Darnassus and taking the boat to Stormwind and then either flying or hoofing it to Westfall, and he was like, "cool, except I can't fly," and then he was gone, and didn't answer my whisper. And I thought, "does he know about Griffon Masters? or whispers? How newb is he?"

So later I saw him in Darnassus, and since I was about to go to Stormwind anyway, I pinged him to see if he still needed to get to Westfall for a coyote, and I could show him the way. I figured it'd take a few minutes.

And it was only after we were in Stormwind Harbor that I thought to ask him whether he'd trained Beast Mastery yet.

So, then there was getting him to the SW trainers and discovering that apparently they don't train anyone under level 12, and then showing him the Trade District and where to find the Griffon Master and the gates of Stormwind, and then hoofing it to Goldshire, and showing him the trainer there, and then hoofing it to Westfall, at which point he leveled to 11, thank goodness, because the coyotes are all 11 and it would have sucked to come all that way only to find he couldn't tame them.

And he tamed his coyote, yay! They really are much prettier in person than they look on Wowhead. And then I said I had to go, and he was super appreciative that I'd helped him, and I said np! and hearthed, and logged off, and only then wondered, "omg, does he even know how to hearth?"

I really hope I didn't leave him stranded in Westfall with no way home.

Very newb. When I asked him if he'd trained before, he said, "I think so", and then "I'm only level 10." /o\

I sent him in-game mail this morning with links to Wowhead and Warcraft Hunter's Union and a couple of newbie guides, so hopefully that'll help. He said he'd only been playing about a week.

I kind of think that a lot of new players -- maybe most of them -- see "New players" beside a server name and think "that's for people who are new to the game! Sign me up!" Because there are a LOT of newbies on Eldre'Thalas. So cute! And sometimes annoying. But so far, mostly cute. :)

Factions

Dec. 1st, 2011 10:09 am
zillah975: (Adventures in Azeroth)
[personal profile] zillah975
So with all the talk on the forums about faction favoritism (and seriously, why did they pick a Horde-side dev to address problems with people feeling like the Alliance gets shafted by the devs? are there any Alliance-side quest writers? and if the devs are all Horde-side, shouldn't this be a clue that they need to beef up Alliance storytelling to make it compelling enough that some of the devs want to play Alliance?) and the snarking from Hordies in the comments about how they're so awesome and Alliance sux and we should just switch factions and stop QQing, it got me thinking about factions and why I keep playing Alliance even though I'm so, SO curious about the Horde-side quests and story lines, and even though I like Thrall about a millionty times better than Varian Wrynn (about whom I know almost nothing. Apparently there are books? Should this be in the game?).

Wow, that was a long sentence. Ooooops.

ANYway. )

But I really am super curious about the Horde-side quests, after seeing what people have to say about them on the forums.

Now that I have Quest Completist installed, maybe I'll try another Hordie.

What do y'all think? Does the Horde really get better, meatier, more engaging quests than Alliance, or is this a "grass is always greener" situation?

And why am I so excited? Is it the buffs to Beast Mastery and Survival hunters? The new dungeons? The buff to Trueshot Aura? Nope! Two things: Bag search, and TRANSMOGRIFICATION. OMG. I am going to waste HOURS trying to figure out what to wear!! *dances*

So I'm finally at 85 on my hunter, and my friends and guildies are all "omg we must do dungeons, we must get you geared," which, you know, YAY! omg, yay! I'm starting to get used to how things work in dungeons, which has led me to change some stuff -- I've respeced for MM and SV instead of BM and MM (sad to see the last of my rhino, sad that I won't get a Spirit Beast unless I respec again, but excited to try out SV), and I've remapped my keybindings (have A and D always been turn left and right? I thought they were strafe left and right? well, they are now, for me at least, god love the strafing) and shot rotations in hopes of improving my efficiency and my DPS. I've been reading Warcraft Hunter's Union, because I understand it SOOOOO much better than I do Elitist Jerks.

But you know what thing none of this will help me with? The thing that caused me to die three times in two Grim Batol runs?

Falling off a cliff.

AHHHAHAHAHAHAHhhahahahahaomg omg SUCH AN IDIOT. DANIRIA, LOOK IT'S RIGHT THERE DON'T RUN OFF THAT CLIFFFFFFFFFF....!

*squish*

I have not YET done the quest where you ride the dragons around, because here's what happens: I start running for a dragon but another party member gets to it first. I make for the next one, but another party member gets it. I go for the third, and lo, it's the one on the other side of the FUCKING INVISIBLE CLIFF.

I'mma screenshot that cliff one day, it's camouflaged like whoa.

And then there was a hole in the bridge.

Seriously, laughing my ass off.

But still. Funny as it is, I would really like to stop falling off cliffs.

Most of what I do is PVP, so after starting up playing again on the normal server I was on during vanilla and remembering how to play all over again, I rolled some toons on Frostmane so I'd find more active PVP guilds. Since server economy is so different across realms and the AH price for leather/herbs is so high on Frostmane I started with gathering profs and made a crapton of gold to just buy whatever I wanted and then PVP for the rest. This worked well enough for a while, but there was actually a scarcity of gear in the AH, so I ended up with some production profs.

Turns out, tailoring shirts is suprisingly good money. I had no idea so many people bought shirts, particularly on a non-RP server. So far my little tailor has raked in about 10k gold by making all the different shirts he can, plus reselling some of the ones sold around in shops.

Anyone have a favorite tailor made outfit?

Personally I currently like to run around in a pink mageweave shirt, tuxedo pants, and simple linen boots. :D

I go outside sometimes, and was thinking the other day, hmm. Which of the WoW zones most closely resembles my IRL surroundings?

Where I'm from I'd say most closely resembles Gilneas, with the rain and murk and Britishness, and we do have a good number of old houses in the village in the Victorian/pseudo-gothic style, where you'd kind of expect a Forsaken warlock trainer to be lurking in the basement... If there were more undead wandering about it'd probably be closest to the Battlefront/Pyrewood Village/southern Silverpine sort of area - especially at the moment with the mist we have. Drive ten miles out of town and you could imagine yourself in the middle of the Northern Headlands - bleak moorland and sheets of rain.

Of course in summer it's much nicer. ^^ Where is everyone else from?

One of my coworkers typically starts her phone conversations with "Hi, how are you?" Which is fine, but also secretly makes me giggle because she uses the exact intonation of the female Gnome NPCs, "Hi, how are you?" A little helium and she'd sound exactly like them.

Just out of curiosity, do y'all have any favorite NPCs? NPCs you'd like to go back and do their quests again because you just liked them a lot? or NPCs you wish you'd gotten to interact with more?

I finished the "rescue Thrall" quest in one of the Caverns Of Time things the other day, and I really wish I'd gotten to talk with him more. (I also wish escort quests gave you more time for looting and skinning.) I'd also like to know what ever happened between Maybell Maclure and Tommy Joe Stonefield, if they got to live happily ever after, if their families reconciled, or what.

And what about the thing where you're supposed to kill Princess the hog, but then if you pick up the quest to kill James Clark you find out that he supposedly killed Princess? Is this miscarriage of justice ever addressed?

Do you ever wish you could punch a friendly NPC in the face? About half the Nessingwary Expedition NPCs make me just want to kick them. But I really enjoy pretty much all the Gnomes, they're just so chipper!

Daniria, in case you have forgotten, is my adored Night Elf Hunter on Shadowsong. Hunters are definitely the way to go for me. I never realize how much I enjoy having a pet until I play one of my non-hunter toons and about halfway through any quest, start feeling lonesome. Even when I put the pet on passive because we're in some zone 30 levels below ourselves farming leather and I get tired of feeling like her kitty is being disappointed by these one-shots -- she CHARGES OFF to DEFEND HER HUNTER and godDAMN it, the thing's dead already -- I still really really love having the pet there. A companion with whom to share the joys and tragedies of life in Azeroth. And also who will defend me if I have to go afk. I came back once to find myself surrounded by dead bodies, and Kittenbo just hanging out.

ANYway. I hit 85 on the "Big Gulp" daily fishing quest in Stormwind, and after squeeing a little bit, hied myself off to the auction house and wound up almost beggaring myself on two pieces of PvP gear.

Because here's the thing. )

This is a quest in the Blasted Lands and I'm just not getting it.

Anyone completed the quest, "You are Rahk'likh, Demon."? If so, any tips on getting the beat down on the Defiler? thanks!

Update: I beat him! Thanks for your help as I only died that one time before I posted here. Y'all rule!

First time posting and I hate that it has to be a mini complaint but at least it's not horrible.

Seriously not a bad one, just advice to fellow roleplayers about an addon )

In other news.. Has anyone noticed how the drop rate for the Sinister Squashling is nearing on 80%? I feel like I've gotten 10 on every character this year. Last year it was the mount, every group I was in last year one person got the mount, this year I've been deleting Squashlings like it's going out of style!

*waves* just joined Dreamwidth today, though I've lurked around other peoples journals for fanfiction recs and stuff. Consequently, just found this community today too. :D

I've been playing WoW since the summer after WotLK dropped, though I only really started getting things about six months ago and I've only had a few alts to ever get over 50.

I guess that's what you get for not playing with others for months at a time and being an altoholic. heh

My current main is on Sisters of Elune. She's a worgen rogue named Mrysine and she's in the Quest Knights guild.  Also, I hope you'll say hi if you're ever on there and see her. She loves making new friends!

I recently did the Badlands questing line for the first time and OMG! I wanted to keep the billy goat puncher SO much! I laughed SO hard while doing that quest! Heck, I still laugh whenever I think of it!

Also, "Deathwing, I'm gonna punch you in the face!" will NEVER get old! LOL!

How about y'all, do you have a fave quest in the game?

I am excite!

4.3 Preview - Transmogrification: "Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. This means that you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer, while priests can bring Benediction back -- at least in spirit. Hunters can once again roam the jungles of Stranglethorn Vale in their tier 2 Dragonstalker set. You could even slip into the saucy tailored Black Mageweave set for that matter. You know, with the thigh highs, and the little gloves, and the cute little... ahem."

ALSO! And even better, at least in practical terms, they're introducing bag and bank search, so you'll FINALLY be able to search your own bags and banked items by item name.

As the subject line says, today is the day all the pet collectors here will curse my name.

This morning, I decided to start fishing for Mr. Pinchy and his Magical Crawdad. I read the guide online. I found the lakes. I fished the pools.

Six of them.

Fished up Mr. Pinchy on my first cast in the sixth pool. Something like 24 casts, total. I was so stunned I didn't get a cap of the achievement. Then I steeled myself to try his wishes. Right click and...Magical Crawdad! I was so surprised I looked over at my loot log to make sure the item was real. But it was...and it was also my 50th pet, so I got the achieve and Stinky as well!

Cap of Rayner with his Magical Crawdad under the cut. I <3 it. I've wanted one of those since I saw the little versions in Orgrimmar and realized how cute they are.

So, if you have friends who've been waffling about whether to try the game, check this out: "With the launch of Rage of the Firelands (patch 4.2), we introduced the World of Warcraft Starter Edition, a replacement for the previously available free trial. The Starter Edition allows anyone to play for free up to level 20 without the time restrictions placed on trial accounts -- all you need is a Battle.net account and Internet connection. The Starter Edition also opens up some new features that weren't available in the old time-limited trial" -- like being able to roll Blood Elf and Draenei characters.

AND! "With the launch of the Starter Edition, all existing trial accounts, including expired ones, have been reactivated. That means if you've tried WoW in the past, your trial-account characters are now accessible once more." And once you hit level 20, you aren't required to either quit or purchase, you just stop getting XP points (also, there's a 10GP cap, so you can buy a mount, but you can't get rich). You can roll a whole new character if you want to.

So I mean, I can see some downsides to this, potentially, but if you know someone who you think would love the game, now's a great time to prod them about trying it. :)

Rayner dinged 85 a few days ago!

I was pretty excited. Finally, all the guides I've been reading will actually apply to me! It drives me nuts that no one writes low level guides for pallys.

Plus, now I can accumulate honor and get good PvP gear again. I can't even describe how painful PvP was from level 80 to 84. All the folks who have toons with lots of cash buy themselves awesome gear, the level 70 purples (which are pretty awesome to level 77 or 78) are suddenly COMPLETELY OUTCLASSED by Cata greens, and the level 80 purples are also badly enough outclassed by Cata greens that I wish I hadn't wasted honor on the three pieces I bought. I went out and got some Cata greens myself, but then you have to give up your resilience and everyone else has gems and enchants to get some resilience on there...gah. I got my ass handed to me so badly around 81 and 82 that I just gave up on BGs until I hit 85. At 85 Tol Barad opens up, and even though I was still in super squishy Cata greens, there are enough people in there, many of them also in Cata greens (apparently a lot of folks don't start PvPing at all until 85) and its big enough that I did OK anyway.

Two major surprises for me at 85:

(1) OMG, you get so much more honor for the same BGs! Between the little bit of honor I had saved from 80 to 84 (~700), two Strand of the Ancients, and one Tol Barad, and I had enough to get an iLevel 371 PvP chest, which costs 2200 honor.

(2) I had to give up my Prot spec. :-( Well, not entirely give up; I dual-specced. But I'm running BGs as Ret instead of Prot now. I bought the dual spec because of how badly I was doing at 82. But Prot just has so many problems with mobility. I was getting snared and slowed so badly it was crazy. Ret's speed boost, extra snare breaker via Cleanse, and sprint-via-Judgement make all the difference in the world. I really need practice at knowing when to pop my cooldowns, though! But only experience will take care of that.

I feel almost guilty going Ret after being a dedicated non-tank Prot for 84 levels. But I still use it for questing (love my durability and pseudo-AOE abilities) and I'll probably poke at Prot-PvP again once I'm fully geared.

Woot! My hunter finally has armor that at least looks like it belongs in the same game!

Matchies )

That's a screenshot of her in Dalaran, with -- ta da -- her new Giant Sewer Rat, which she fished up in the Dalaran sewers, in the Black Market area.

And thank y'all for the advice on windowing! It's working beautifully, now that Bartender and I have come to an arrangement. \o/
