DANIRIA HIT LEVEL 85 LAST NIGHT!!

*dances liek woah*

Daniria, in case you have forgotten, is my adored Night Elf Hunter on Shadowsong. Hunters are definitely the way to go for me. I never realize how much I enjoy having a pet until I play one of my non-hunter toons and about halfway through any quest, start feeling lonesome. Even when I put the pet on passive because we're in some zone 30 levels below ourselves farming leather and I get tired of feeling like her kitty is being disappointed by these one-shots -- she CHARGES OFF to DEFEND HER HUNTER and godDAMN it, the thing's dead already -- I still really really love having the pet there. A companion with whom to share the joys and tragedies of life in Azeroth. And also who will defend me if I have to go afk. I came back once to find myself surrounded by dead bodies, and Kittenbo just hanging out.

ANYway. I hit 85 on the "Big Gulp" daily fishing quest in Stormwind, and after squeeing a little bit, hied myself off to the auction house and wound up almost beggaring myself on two pieces of PvP gear.

I've kind of been wanting to try my hand at PvP, right? I was hanging around outside Wintergrasp last night while I was still level 84, and you know, I mean, I'm just super tired of having to go around it to avoid getting flagged for PvP. I wanted to know what was in there.

Turns out one of the things in there is elementals that drop a nicely high rate of crystalized shadow and crystalized water. Apart from that, apparently a battleground that exists even when no one is fighting in it, complete with a quest giver who wants you to kill 10 opposing players for around 20 honor points, which, I can't tell whether you should pick up the quest before queuing for battle or quite what that's about.

And I've thought about trying battlegrounds, but keep seeing people on the forums complaining about people doing BGs in PvE gear, and kept thinking, dude, how do I get PvP gear without doing PvP? I don't have the crafting levels to make it myself, and--

and then I thought, you know, I'll bet you can buy that shit. I'll bet it's not all BOP. (How annoyed was I when I made Dragonstrike Leggings only to realize I couldn't sell them? SO ANNOYED.)

And sure enough, you CAN buy it, and it is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. I spent a while looking at the available options, and finally decided on the Bloodthirsty Dragonscale Helm and Shoulders. Pretty good stats, and my DPS and Crit chance actually went up a bit. Not sure whether I should continue wearing them for questing, 'cause that's the other thing I hear people complain about, is folks questing or raiding in PvP gear. Idek, it seems like good gear, at least compared to what I had before. Not hugely better, but better enough that I don't feel like resilience has ripped me off of other stats.

Anyway, I don't feel like I can just walk into a BG and pwn all, but at least I'm beginning to acquire gear that will help keep me from dying an instant and ignominious death?

Now, to see if my guildies are available for old dungeon raids on Saturday, to help me get the mythical raiding gear I keep hearing about. What the hell IS it, anyway? Is it just super good questing gear?

I like the battlegrounds, but I'm not much for arenas. I'm more of a PVE/achievement freak.

Well, you won't pwn much at all without PVP gear, but here's what I'd suggest. Do the Tol Barard battle. It's the "PVE friendly BG", because a lot of people want access to the raid, and not everyone wants to farm PVP gear. A lot of people there do wear PVP gear, but there's a weekly quest to win the battle for an extra 200 honor. So yeah, I'd buy some cheap bits of the blue 358 gear, and start doing TB.

And Tuesday is the best day to do the battle, because that's when the raid resets. It's like WG in Itch King; the place was a dead zone come Sunday evening (compared to Tuesday, anyway. It was never really empty.)

And yeah, without PVP gear, you'll die fast and frequently, but you'll still rack up HKs and honor. Conquest is the way to go if you want the best of the best gear, but I wouldn't worry about if you're just starting out. They changed it (with cata) so you can buy PVP weapons with honor, so that's fabulous.
