Weekend adventures! Also, battlegrounds, and wth is PVP gear?

So, I had a great weekend in Azeroth (and Outland). My sister and I rolled up a couple of characters on Feathermoon with the idea of learning how to tank. And now we've decided to also roll up a couple of DPS characters, and switch off pairing them with one of our tanks so that we can learn the mystical magical Tank+DPS combo as opposed to all the soloing I've been doing. I've rolled YET ANOTHER Night Elf hunter (god, I love hunters), though it was tempting to do a mage. It's just, I feel more confident that I can run a mage with other people; with my hunter, my big worry is managing my pet.

I'm also starting to think that battlegrounds might be a good idea, if only because the gear you can get with honor points is so nifty, but I'm not sure how to get started. I worry a lot about messing up somebody else's game, so I like to have an idea what I'm doing before I go hauling my ass into the middle of something, but I'm not sure how to tell whether I've got sufficient gear and skill so as to avoid embarrassing myself too egregiously. I don't mind dying, I know I'll do that a lot at first, I just don't want to screw anything up for anyone else, you know? And I hear how you should have your PVP gear before you go in, but having looked at what folks call PVP gear, I can't really see how it's any different from any other good gear. Help?

Also, is it okay to head into a battlefield and simply try to kill any enemy you see, or is that poor form? are you supposed to figure out how to work as part of the larger team?

P.S. Question: is there ever a good time to put your Hunter pet on Aggressive? I can't think of one, but there must be a reason it exists. Thoughts?

So, I'm bidding on part of an armor set on the auction house, and I want the whole set if I can get it, or at least a lot of it. But only two pieces are BoE, the rest are bind on pickup. So I went looking, and discovered that they're available from "a 40-man raid instance" that "requires attunement to enter."

So, my two questions are, what's attunement?

And how in the hell do you coordinate forty people in a dungeon??? D: I had a hard time keeping track with just five!
