Defeating the Defiler

 This is a quest in the Blasted Lands and I'm just not getting it. 

Anyone completed the quest, "You are Rahk'likh, Demon."? If so, any tips on getting the beat down on the Defiler? thanks!

Update: I beat him! Thanks for your help as I only died that one time before I posted here. Y'all rule!

I find that WowHead is really useful for stuff like that:

The comments often have hints, or sometimes complaints that the quest is bugged. :-)

That one was hard, and it took me the longest time to figure out how to do it. The comments that montanaharper linked to are the only way I got it sorted, and even then I had to do it three times before I both beat him and remembered to use the knife. :/
